A Carrying Device for My Anxiety

A Carrying Device for My Anxiety is a necklace featuring a forged sterling silver vessel made to represent my experience with anxiety. The carrying device can be breathed into to expel stress, leading the balloon inside to inflate and force itself against the interior of the vessel. If the pressure of the balloon is enough, the polished exterior will crack open, revealing a sarcastically joyous grin. The pendant’s own weight pinches the balloon partially closed, allowing for the wearer to externalize their internal pressure and allow it to dissipate slowly. While originally made to represent my personal anxieties, I now view the piece as a method for relieving the stress caused by a toxic political climate.
